Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger
  • 2 tsp tahini
  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup apple juice
  • 1 handful cilantro
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1½ cups frozen peaches
  • 3 leaves kale
Instructions
  1. peel and chop ginger
  2. peel banana
  3. put all ingredients in blender
  4. blend and serve!

Hi, and welcome back. Today I’m going to show you how to make a Peach Tahini Kale Smoothie Recipe, that I improvised on the spot using ingredients that were around in my fridge.

That’s not entirely true because I went out and specifically bought the tahini, because my dad said, “Hey, you should put tahini in one of your kale smoothie recipes,” and I said, “that sounds like an interesting idea!” I’d never really experienced tahini outside of shawarmas and hummus, so I thought that would be interesting to put it in a sweet context, instead of a savory one.

And it turns out that it tasted really good! by the way is like peanut butter, but with sesame seeds instead of peanuts.

So, it’s a nut butter. [technically it's a SEED butter.]

But without further adieu, let’s get to the recipe-makin’!

Okay – we are wingin’ it today, you guys. I have got a random assortment of ingredients, and I’m just gonna see what happens.

We have kale, we’ve got cilantro, ginger, banana, all the normal kind of stuff. Lemon, lime, apple juice – but today I’m puttin’ in some frozen peaches instead of blueberries or mangos or pineapples, and instead of peanut butter, we’re goin’ with tahini, which is kind of a normally savory thing that they put in shawarmas with a lot of garlic and salt and stuff but it can also be in a sweet context, so we’re gonna try that.

Alright. First thing, I’m gonna attack this ginger. Okay.

Next I’m gonna put in the tahini, so that it gets blended with the ginger real well. It’s like way more gooey than peanut butter. What’s that, a teaspoon? Let’s try another one. Okay.

Next, let’s put in the banana, some apple juice, and get that blended.

Throw in some cilantro because I love cilantro – some of you out there might hate it I know – but I think it’s super great.

Lemon juice… Let’s blend that. Okay.

Let’s see how crazy it tastes… (laughs) …a little crazy. Needs somethin’ sweet in there; that apple juice isn’t really doin’ it.

Let’s see what these peaches do. HUGE chunks of peaches.

Let’s see if that added any sweetness. Hm! Hey that’s pretty good – alright!

Put some kale in there… These leaves are pretty small, so we’re gonna use three of ‘em.

Lookin’ pretty good! Well, let’s see what that tastes like. I think we’re done, you guys.

  • pour apple juice in blender.
  • blend ingredients.
  • tear off 1 handful cilantro, put in blender.
  • squeeze juice of one lemon into blender.
  • put frozen peaches in blender.
  • add kale, blend.
  • serve!
